This is it!  Likely our last tour of the Chimney Hollow Reservoir!  

The Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project is a collaborative effort by 12 Northeastern Colorado water providers to improve the reliability of the Windy Gap Project. Chimney Hollow Reservoir will be located just west of Carter Lake in Larimer County. Its 90,000 acre-feet of dedicated storage capacity will supply a reliable 30,000 acre-feet of water each year for future generations. Construction began in August 2021.  

The Reservoir began filling in July 2025 and is anticipated to be operational in 2027.

Cost: Free for Members Limited to 24 Attendees Description: Northern Water requires that all tour attendees wear long pants and closed toe shoes for safety while on Chimney Hollow overlook tour. 

Please arrive at Northern Water offices, 220 Water Ave., Berthoud, at 8:45am. We will meet outside of Building H on the southwest corner of the campus. Guest parking is available in any non-secure area. Check in with the Chimney Hollow Communications Team outside of Building H. 

We will board Northern Water buses at 9am, no private vehicles are allowed and depart for Chimney Hollow overlook. 

The Chimney Hollow Reservoir overlook tour gives a full view of the valley from property on the Eastern ridge just above the main dam construction. This true overlook tour that allows the Project Team to provide insight on several components of the reservoir construction, including the main dam, coffer dam, quarry, concrete plant and more. Northen Water’s project Team will provide presentations and overview of several main components of the project. 

At 10:45 a.m. we will depart for Northern Water Berthoud offices. We will arrive at Northern Water’s campus at 11:15am where attendees can use the restrooms then head into the Northern Water Board room for lunch (provided) & the Water Law 1.01for REALTORS 2-hour CE credit class being taught by Sean Cronin, Executive Director, St. Vrain Left Hand Water Conservancy District.
